BOMA – A taste of Africa at Disney
BOMA an unusual dining experience to say the least.
This is one of the newest restaurant in Disney Orlando at its new Animal Kingdom Lodge. I had the opportunity to dine there in August. The food was good and service was pretty decent considering the place was jam packed. The waiter even accommodated my son who would not eat anything on the all-u-can eat buffet, yes they made custom pizzas for his pallet.
The food had a definite Mediterranean and N. African flair. Although they did have I believe it was a Pepper Crusted Prime Rib, probably the least palatable of the items on the buffet. Redemption right behind the Roast was Duck which was very good. Rounding out the easy to remember meats they also had Roasted Chicken and some various dipping sauces including a Moroccan Barbecue. Other memorable dishes included a Green Bean and Curd (Tofu) dish, and 5 different soups. I tried the Seafood and the Coconut Chicken soups which were very good. In the salad areas they had many different items some honorable and very different items included a selection of Humus Spreads, and a Watermelon Rhine Salad, sounds horrible but was actually an unusual combination of sweet and tangy, I highly recommend it. The price is a little steep but it is a Disney Resortand it is in the middle of a vacation spot. Cost for the little ones on a Saturday around 19.00 and for us bigger kids up to 36.00 depending on time of day and season I guess.
Summary: It is not a place to run to with kids in tow unless they like unusual food. On the “American or Kids” fair they did have pasta with meatballs, mac ‘n cheese, French fries and chicken nuggets. If your hanging out in Orlando and looking for something different this will be one of those places.
