Wish you could use Office for free – 04022012

Now before I get you overly excited the free versions may not be as robust as the paid versions but for many users they may be just enough (sorry MicroSoft I know you hate when we tell customers this).

First if you are buying a new PC today many of the system builders are paying a small fee to MicroSoft to be able to install the Office Starter edition which includes Word and Excel. The price to the user is that the system must have Windows Live and Bing toolbar loaded initially.  Not a bad price to be able to use basic word processing and spreadsheet tools. Oh and one other small price an ad can be displayed in the bottom right corner of the office product.

So could it get any better for you, or worse for the retail side. Quietly I say “Yes” as you may start to roar I can get more with out paying 100.00’s o’dollars to MicroSoft. You can activate an ID on Microsoft’s Live platform, also part of the old MicroSoft Passport, Hotmail, and I believe MSN members.  There are many benefits to being on the Live Platform including free storage (currently 10G), and access to the Web Office Apps. These applications include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. That’s it the total cost is 0 point 0 dollars. (Howard Stern’ fans may get this reference, Poor Ronnie the limo driver, #rmlimodriver69).
