Flashback Trojan not your PC problem but if you have a MAC… 04132012

Flashback – its goal is to inject itself into the OS X and gain administrative rights by faking users into thinking Adobe Flash Player needs to be updated.  If it gets in it then collects usernames and passwords for sites the user visits.  Visit CIO Insight for their review of some of the issues about this trojan.  This trojan actually exploits Java to get itself downloaded, and we know from experience that many viruses and malware start as a Java infection.  Like many virus/malware instances new variations are cropping up as fast as they can be discovered.  So this will remain a threat now just like the Fake AV threats on the PC.

According to Doctor Web that more than 600,000 machines are infected with this Trojan. On the site Mashable Tech in Samantha Murphy’s article “Mac Flashback Trojan: Find Out If You’re Infected and What to Do About It“, there is a review of this virus and some tips on how to see if you are infected. They explain the manual steps needed to check your Mac, or to simplify it you can run a scan by downloading the free Dr. Web Light from the Apple App Store.
