Updated windows to the creators version and lost screen clip to Onenote

OneNote 2016 Screen clip lost

Update to Windows Creator edition

Problem

On my computer since I started using OneNote I have been sending screen clips to OneNote and it would prompt me to save to a section or clipboard. Since the install of creator edition this seems to have stopped.  In the past I believe this happened around the release of 8.1. Microsoft implemented search using WinKey+S so OneNote was changed to use Shft+WinKey+S. Well now with what seems to be a new hidden clip feature the clip to one note stopped working.

I found old solutions for the workaround to the search issue and this seems to have solved my new issue I just have to get used to the new keys. I am now using Shft+WinKey+A to screen clip to OneNote.

Fix/Workaround

Simple explanation ad new key if it did not exist in the registry for one note to change the key that it uses for screen clipping.

Technical Facts

  1. 1 Open registry editor
  2. 2 Locate key for current version of one note Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\OneNote\Options\Other
  3. See if the key ScreenClippingShortcutKey exists
  4. No key create new reg_dword key named “ScreenClippingShortcutKey”
  5. Set Value to 41 for the letter “a” to be the hot key.
